Enhancing Hydrogen Storage Capacity of Pd Nanoparticles by Sandwiching between Inorganic Nanosheets

H2 is regarded to play a crucial role in the transition from fossil fuel-based energy economy towards an environmentally friendly one. However, storage of still challenging, but palladium (Pd) based materials show exciting properties. Therefore, nanoparticulate Pd has been intensely studied for hydrogen past years. Here, we stabilize nanoparticles by intercalation between inorganic nanosheets hectorite (NaHec). Compared stabilized polymer polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), capacity was found be 86 % higher identical being intercalated nanosheets. We attribute this remarkably enhanced partial oxidation Pd, as evidenced X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The amount holes 4d band leads that can absorbed when compared PVP nanoparticles.
